You will be based either on our event site or out on the route. If you are on the event site, roles could include helping us set up our gazebos, handing out water and medals or selling our Alzheimer’s Society merchandise. If you are out on the route you will be both pointing our walkers in the right direction and cheering them on as they go!

Most of our GLOW volunteer roles will be needed between 5:30pm and 9:30pm and most of our Memory Walk volunteer roles between 8:30am and 2:30pm, depending on the role. You will receive exact timings from the team closer to the event day, including when to arrive.
You will receive updates from the team in the lead up to the event which will provide you with everything you need to know before event day. You will also receive a useful volunteer pack in the post with more information soon after you sign up. On the day of the event, you’ll be given a briefing by our event manager telling you everything you need to know about your role.
We may also contact you by phone or text message in case we need to update you with vital information.
All the volunteering equipment you need, including a radio, hi-vis, volunteer t-shirt, will be provided to you on the day. So you just need to bring yourself and your enthusiasm! Water, a hot drink and some food will be provided, but if you get hungry then bringing snacks are always recommended.

You will be a central part of our fundraising effort to walk for a world without dementia. Without the support of our volunteers we would not be able to raise any funds for people affected by dementia. We have raised millions of pounds over the years at our walks, and not a penny of this would have been possible without our volunteers!
At the event you have the chance to meet new and like-minded people whilst having a great day out. Volunteering at a national mass participation event also provides you with new skills and experiences to take into your personal and professional life.

If you are already registered Alzheimer’s Society volunteer, we will need you to register using our online form still. It is essential we have the most up to date details, including vital health and safety information for the day of the event.

That’s great that you have signed up to volunteer – welcome to the team! Unless it is very close to your walk, you will receive a welcome pack that will contain more details about your role and the walk. You will also receive an event brief by email and text before your walk (which if you sign up late you will still receive). Your brief will contain all the details you need to volunteer.

If you are part of a team eager to help, we would love for you to come along – the more the merrier! All you need to do is simply sign up individually, via the online form, and make sure to mention who you’re volunteering with in the appropriate section. There is no guarantee that we can allocate you both in the same area, but we will try our best!

All youth groups must have a leader (aged over 18) who is responsible for the group on the day of the event. If you are the leader, you need to fill out the online form as per usual. When filling out the form, please put the name of your group and the number of youths you’re bringing in the ‘volunteering with a friend section’, e.g. scout group x10. This way we will have a better understanding of numbers on the day!
Then please email email@example.com to confirm the group you’re bringing, the number of youths you’re bringing and the walk you are taking part in. If there are any changes to the number of volunteers you’re bringing, then please do email again to confirm.
Definitely! If you are 16 or 17, you will need to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We can then provide you with a couple of forms to fill out, which you will need to fill out and send back to us. One of them is a parental/guardian consent form.
Volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian on event day. The parent or guardian also needs to complete the online volunteer registration form.
Unfortunately we are unable to send out anymore packs in the post, but don’t worry, you can collect all of your volunteer equipment on the day.
Parking facilities on event day varies walk by walk. Closer to the walk you will receive an event brief that will have more information within it, and will be able to confirm the parking facilities available on the day.
